Leading polymer component manufacturer Icon Polymer Ltd, based in Retford, Nottinghamshire, has been awarded the GM/RT 2450 quality standard for suppliers to the rail industry. The standard covers safety-critical engineered components.
Icon Polymer manufactures a range of products for the transport market and specifically rail applications. Director of Sales John Greaves said: “Through a sister company, Silentbloc Ltd, we supplied mechanical engineered suspension systems and anti-vibration components for the rail sector. Its products are specified for both primary and secondary suspension systems on locomotives, high-speed intercity and regional passenger trains and modern light rail systems, such as the Eurotram.”
“However, with Icon Polymer attaining this level of quality assurance we can now bring a far more comprehensive range of products to our customers, for applications across rolling stock, carriages and infrastructure.”
Icon Polymer Ltd and Silentbloc Ltd operate within the Icon Polymer Group of companies. “Many customers were asking for Silentbloc, with its prestigious brand name, to expand into other products. When the Icon team looked within the Group we found that capability already existed. It was then a matter of channeling resource and focusing on creating value for our customers. This is how we differentiate ourselves from our competitors,” said Managing Director Tim Pryce. “We create tangible value for our customers.”
John Greaves added: “We work with some of the world’s leading train and rolling stock manufacturers on a wide range of components for both new-build and refurbishment programmes and have an extensive track record in safety-critical components, not only for the rail industry but in other transport-related fields.
“Quality is a key tenet of our manufacturing process and we are delighted that this has been recognised with GM/RT 2450.”
The Icon Polymer Group designs and manufactures high performance, safety critical, polymer-based components for a range of industries worldwide.
